NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Big West leader UC Santa Barbara defeated CSUN 4-1 in league women’s tennis action Friday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.

The Matadors took the doubles point. Magdalena Herdrzak and Sasha Turchak defeated Lise Sentenac and Elizaveta Volodko 6-2. Camille Kiss and Marta Gonzalez Ballbe defeated Ana Fraile Toboso and Kailen Galazka 6-3 at No. 3 to the play. Jacquie Tan and Jenna Dorian clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-1) victory at No. 2 over Kira Reuter and Shaknoza Khatamora.

The Gauchos’ (8-3, 7-0 Big West) Gonzalez got the singles play underway with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Galazka in the No. 6 match. Volodko defeated Fraile Toboso 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 with Senenac handing Tan a 6-4, 6-0 defeat at No. 4. The dual concluded at No. 3 where Khatamora defeated Turchak 6-3, 6-3.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team for how they competed today,” said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. “The doubles point was one of the most entertaining in years. Magda and Sasha have come so far as a doubles team – Sasha was not in the doubles lineup a few weeks ago and now they are beating Santa Barbara at No. 1. Jacquie and Jenna had an amazingly positive energy and played so well together. With our top 2 players out, Magda had match point and Jenna was up when we stopped – Ana and Kailen fought for every point. We are uplifted by this team’s ability to continue fighting through the countless obstacles.”

The Matadors (6-4, 5-3 Big West) travel to UC San Diego for a Sunday dual that gets underway at 3 p.m.
