DAVIS, Calif.—The CSUN Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams completed the Big West Championship Friday morning at the Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis.
MEN’S RECAP
Redshirt Freshman Quinn Garity was the top finishing Matador. Garity recorded a time of 24:38.2 which was 18th overall. His time is a new season-best and is the fourth-fastest by a CSUN runner at the Division I level dating back to the 2000 season on an 8k course. Cal State Fullerton’s Sam Ayala took home first-place (23:34.5).
As a team, CSUN finished sixth (183), tying the 2017 team for the Matadors’ best team placing since the squad joined the Big West in 2001. UC Santa Barbara (38) was the Big West champion.

“Our top-four ran very well,” said CSUN head coach Justin Johnson. “They stayed competitive and made moves when they needed to. I thought they ran smart and executed well. Quinn did a fantastic job of establishing himself in the early portion of the race and moving up into the top 20.”
WOMEN’S RECAP
Redshirt freshman Leann Hamilton was the top finishing CSUN entry. Hamilton ran a season-best time of 23:59.8 to place 61st overall and was awarded 54th-place points. Trinity Ruelas (20:09.0) of Cal State Fullerton was the individual champion.
CSUN finished ninth (300) in the 10-team race. UC Davis (26) won the Big West team championship.

“Our team put forth a good effort today, but we fell short of what I thought we could do,” Johnson said. “There is a lot of room for improvement. Leann continues to race well and lead the team.”
Next up for the Matadors is the Nov. 12 NCAA West Region Cross Country Championship which will be hosted by Sacramento State.
