LA JOLLA, Calif.—CSUN shutout UC San Diego 4-0 in Big West women’s tennis action Sunday afternoon at Northview Courts.
Magdalena Hedrzak and Sasha Turchak began the dual with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Anu Bhadada and Shweta Kumar. Ekatarina Repina and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso clinched the doubles point by defeated Sophie Pearson and Ella Pachi 6-4 at No. 1.
Singles’ action got underway when Kailen Galazka defeated Anjni Agrawal 6-1, 6-2. Galazka, a sophomore, picked up her first career singles victory in the match. Repina put CSUN in a position to clinch the meet when she handed Pearson a 6-1, 6-1 defeat in the No. 1 slot. Fraile Toboso clinched the dual for the Matadors when she defeated Bhadada 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
“I am happy for Kailen to get her first win,” said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. “Kat played very well today; she is as good as it gets in the Big West. Doubles have become more and more solid. Ana is getting back to playing her game; and very well. Magda, Sasha, and Jenna didn’t get to finish but always provide great energy and fight. We are Looking forward to the opportunity to play Wednesday’s match.”
UC San Diego falls to 2-8, 1-6 in Big West play in the program’s first season at the Division I level. CSUN (7-4, 4-3 Big West) closes the regular season Wednesday when the Matadors host Cal State Fullerton (11-5, 5-2 Big West). Coverage on BigWest.tv begins at 2 p.m.
