In the first leg, Chelsea received a defeat at home to Man City and it was clear that they wanted to recover the borrowed debt.

Force information

Man City : Riyad Mahrez is attending the CAN Cup so cannot be present in today’s match. Kyle Walker returned to the first team at the weekend after a month of convalescence, but the ability of the likes of Phil Foden, John Stones or Oleksandr Zinchenko to be questioned.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish was not on the bench in Man City’s last match so it will be interesting to see if he can feature today.

Chelsea:  Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante have both returned after contracting Covid-19, but Andreas Christensen tested positive.

Defenders Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah will all be sidelined with injuries.

Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech will compete for a spot in attack alongside Mason Mount and Romelu Lukaku.

Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic could start. Kovacic will most likely replace Kante, who looked a bit tired when sitting on the bench against Tottenham in the middle of last week.

Notable players:

De Bruyne is the trigger that Chelsea need to pay attention to.

It is difficult to predict Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup, but in an important match like this, it is likely that the Spaniard will put his full faith in talented midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. Despite some periods this season, De Bruyne was unable to play due to injury, but he still managed to pocket five Premier League goals.

Having to play against a team with a very strong midfield like Man City, Jorginho’s role is huge. If Jorginho cannot regulate the game well, nor create a connection between the three lines, Chelsea will be pressed continuously.

Man City have won 12 consecutive matches in the domestic arena and will go a long way to the championship if they beat Chelsea, the opponent is behind them.

After a tumultuous December, Chelsea started 2022 in better form. They reached the Carabao Cup Final after beating Tottenham 3-0 on aggregate.

Chelsea are 10 points behind Man City. They need to win if they want to keep a glimmer of hope in the race to the throne.

Man City had a weak defense at the end of December, with only one clean sheet in their last four but with 12 wins and 14 at home this season, they are expected to have three points today.

Score prediction: Man City 2-1 Chelsea (from Whoscored)
