Matador Student-Athletes of the Week – Oct. 26

Each week during the 2021-22 season, selects two Matadors as Student-Athletes of the Week. This week, we highlight Ekatarina Repina from the Women’s Tennis team and Blake Brothers from the Men’s Golf’s team for their performances on the court and on the golf course.

Senior Ekaterina Repina has been named CSUN’s Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week after a successful weekend in San Diego.

At the Oct. 21 ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego, Ektarina Repina defeated Hawai’i’s Madison Kim 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7) in the first round. She fell to the No. 9 seed, Jordyn McBride of San Diego in the round of 64, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). Repina and partner Magdalena Hedrzak and were eliminated when they lost 6-1 to Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper of USC. In Fall play, Repina is 1-1 in singles and 4-3 in doubles action.

Brothers_Blake_21Blake Brothers, Men’s Golf

Senior Blake Brothers has been named CSUN’s Men’s Student-Athlete of the Week after he was the top finishing Matador at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Oct. 23.

Competing as an individual, Brothers was CSUN’s low scorer at seven-under-par 206. Brothers had his best round of the tournament in Saturday’s final round, finishing at six-under 65 to tie for 10th. It marked the second top-10 finish in four tournaments for Brothers this season. The senior from Los Angeles helped the Matadors to a final round team total of 269 which moved CSUN into a tie for sixth-place with Sacramento State at 13-under 839 for the tournament.

At 15-under 269, the Matadors set a 31-year program record for 18 holes. Since team records were recorded in the 1990-91 season, CSUN’s previous low team total was 275 set at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in 2010. CSUN finished in a tie for sixth with Sacramento State at 13-under 839 for
