NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Thirty-nine CSUN student-athletes earned Big West All-Academic Team recognition on Tuesday, the league office announced.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes are required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contents.
Thirty-seven Matadors received spring all-academic honors led by softball with seven honorees. Baseball and beach volleyball has six honorees apiece while men’s track & field and women’s tennis had four each. Women’s golf and the women’s track & field team had three honorees followed by men’s golf and men’s volleyball with two apiece. Two men’s basketball student-athletes received spots on the winter all-academic team.
A record 705 recipients were honored on the Big West Spring All-Academic Team, surpassing the old mark of 634 set just last year. The spring team features student-athletes from baseball, softball, beach volleyball, men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field, and women’s water polo. All 11 institutions were represented on the team including Sacramento State, an associate member in beach volleyball.
The Big West Winter All-Academic Team boasted 75 honorees in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball.
